Lake Mburo Safari Tour Uganda , Trip and Vacation to Lake Mburo National Park
This is a very special place as every part of it is teaming with varying interests and colour. The park is a home of mammals like zebras, impalas, elands,topi and buffaloes. The bird population includes the rare shoebill-stork. The park is fraught with forest galleries rich acacia free, valleys seasonal and permanent swamps. Being only 370km, it is the smallest of Uganda’s savannah national parks.
Location of the Park
Situated in Mbarara district, it is about 3-5 hour drive from Kampala. The park is accessed from the masaka –mbarara road, turn left to Nshara gate (13km past lyantonde) or alternatively turn left at Sanga trading centre (27km past lyantonde) which brings you though the Sanga gate. Both junctions are have clearly marked sign posts. It’s about 13kms from Sanga trading centre to Sanga gate and 8km from the main road to Nshara gate. It’s about 20 minutes drive from either gates to Rwonyo park headquarters.
The Park’s Flora and Fauna
The park is famous for its richness in biodiversity. It has about 68 different species of mammals. The common ones are Zebras, impalas, buffaloes, topis and elands that are herbivorous and leopards, hyenas and jackals that are predators. The park also has 315 different species of birds including the rare shoebill stork, papyrus yellow warbler, African fin foot, saddle billed stork, brown chested wattled plover, Caruthers cisticole,tabora cisticole, great snipe, Abyssinian ground hornbill and white winged warbler. The woody vegetation of Lake Mburo is dominated by Acacia species, Olea species and Boscia species.
Rubanga Forest
The forest is an eye-catching place for bird watchers since has a variety of quarters condusive for birds. Over 40 species of birds recorded in Rubanga forest, 5 of which are forest “specialists†. Some of the common species are the harrier hawk, greenpigoen, narina trogn, grey-backed cameroptera and double-toothed barbet. The forest, through small, is a real high forest with closed canopy. Some common trees are markhamia platycalyx, spium, erythriana, and acacia.
Conservation Education Centre
The park has a conservation education centre, just about 1km from Sange gate. It has a decent housing along with a hall with maximum capacity of 40 people and caters for school groups, seminars or workshops.
Accommodation
The park provides accommodation facilities, consisting of six tents at Rwonyo park head offices and three public camp sites, all purposefully located to ease and enhance scenic viewing and effortless access to water. Lake mburo restaurants is located at the lakeside provides meals on order. Mantana Tented Camps, 3.5km from Rwonyo park headquarters caters for the up market tourists.
Interpretation Centre
Rwonyo hill habours interpretation centre . This centre provides all the lliterature about the park history, biodiversity and other resources including the scenic beauty of the park. The interpretation centre also serves as an initial point for nature walks.
Game Drives in the Park
The park has a number of tourist tracks that are used for game drives. Impala track exposes the tourist to different species. One may sight a number of waterbucks, warthogs, topis and zebras. Zebra track leads to burchell†s zebra (equus burchelli) with oyher species like oribi, bushbucks and reedbuck. The zebra track leads to the junction of Roroko track, a drive through a wetland basin and thick acacia shrub and woodland, with olive trees, eurphorbia species and Kopjes (rock outcrop) along the Ruroko track, are home of klipspringers to which the rock is the best habitant.
Kigambira loop takes you through a wooded wilderness with scattered thickets and while you are here, look out for the bushbucks and bush duikers.
The lakeside track is especially designed to facilitate viewing of water plants and animals. The park has a diversity of water birds and woodland birds, which can be sighted along these tracks.
The kazuma track passes through wooded grassland where black-bellied bustards often patrol the area. For visitors to experience a real exposure of Lake Mburo National park, they should climb kazuma hill, which is high enough to enable them see what they could have missed. The five lakes with in the park and the rolling hills became more visible and attractive. It’s better seen than heard!
Game Fishing
Lake Mburo has about 6 species of fish, the common one being tilapia
Visitors preparing to enjoy sport fishing on lake Mburo should carry their own
fishing gear and fish at the selected point at mazinga. Restaurant is accessible at
the campsite 2 to ensure maximum relaxation for visitors while at the lake.
Boat Trips
The presence of Lake Mburo with in the park is a blessing. The lake is rich with diversity of animals and plant species, which can also be viewed clearly while on the boat trip. These include crocodiles, hippopotami and birds like pelicans, black crake, heron, cormorant and fish eagle but you may also see the rare shoebill stork, all of which will furnish your visit with pride. The duration of each boat ride is 2hours maximum, but arrangements can be made with management at an extra fee.
Guided Walks
The nature trail offers the visitors a chance to have a high regard for nature insight. Visitors have the chance to walk in the circuit at their own pace in company of armed guide. Information on trails is accessible.
Salt Lick
A Walk to any near by salt lick is the climax of all. A strategically located wooded plat-form offers a chance to see at least four different species of animals at any one time while they link to the salty soil. The observation point is located in such a way that close observation can be done with out distracting the animals from salt lick.
